A Message from the OC Green Team

Help OC win a new NexTrex bench made from recyclable materials!  Starting Monday, we are collecting plastic bags and plastic film wrappers. See the picture below for a list of approved materials.  It is very important that all materials are clean and free of any food residue or crumbs. To have a chance of getting the new bench, we need to collect 1,000 pounds of plastic film.  There are now collection bags in each classroom for your child to use. Thank you for helping us reduce our trash and take care of our environment!

It’s Kindergarten Registration Time!

Attending kindergarten provides children with an opportunity to learn and practice the essential social, emotional, problem-solving, and self-regulation skills they will use throughout their lives. Eligible children can also be registered throughout the summer, but registering your child early helps us plan so that we have the teachers and resources needed on the first day of school.

Prepare for registration by gathering documents and completing forms. We are happy to support families with registration and the transition to kindergarten. For more information in other languages, visit FCPS’ Kindergarten Registration webpage.

Dear Olde Creek Elementary Families,

Progress Reports are coming home in your child's Friday folder today. Some families may also receive attendance report cards alongside their progress reports.

These reports offer a snapshot of your child's recent performance. If you have any questions or want to discuss anything further, please don't hesitate to reach out to your child's teacher.

We had a particularly exciting event this week as we all witnessed a glimpse of the solar eclipse during dismissal time! It was a wonderful opportunity to explore the wonders of science firsthand and create a memory that will last a lifetime.

April is a month rich with cultural recognition, including Autism Acceptance Month, Month of the Military Child, School Library Month, National Arab American Heritage Month, and Muslim American Heritage Month. Please see below for more information about these important observances.

As we head into next week, remember to check out our upcoming events calendar for more ways to get involved at school. Here's to a season of growth, exploration, and of course, plenty of smiles!

Sincerely,

Courtney, Alison and Stephanie

Updates 1. Message from Mrs. Miller

Dear Olde Creek Families and Friends,

As many of you know, this bittersweet message marks the end of my journey as your principal. While I am incredibly excited about the new opportunities that await me at Cub Run Elementary, leaving this remarkable school community fills me with immense gratitude and a bit of sadness.

Olde Creek has woven its magic into the fabric of my life. These past four years have been a whirlwind of laughter, learning, and shared experiences. I've witnessed countless "aha!" moments in classrooms, celebrated countless achievements, and felt the warmth of this community's spirit at every event.

Words cannot express how grateful I am for the dedication of our exceptional teachers and staff. You have gone above and beyond, fostering a nurturing environment where every Bear feels supported, challenged, and engaged in their learning experiences. Thank you for your tireless efforts, unwavering commitment, and infectious enthusiasm.

To our amazing Bears, the true heart of Olde Creek, I want to say this: Keep chasing your dreams with the same passion and curiosity you've exhibited during our time together. Never lose sight of your goals and remember that the lessons learned within these walls will serve you well, no matter where life takes you.

Olde Creek will always hold a special place in my heart. I have no doubt that this incredible community will continue to thrive, reaching even greater heights with the dedicated leadership of Mrs. Korb and the continued support of each and every one of you.

I wish you continued success, joy, and lifelong learning. Remember, once a Bear, always a Bear!

With heartfelt gratitude and warm wishes,

Melissa Miller, Principal

Our first graders celebrated the 101st day of school today decked out in black and white! They got to reflect on their learning for the last 101 days!

Updates 1. Message from Mrs. Miller

Dear Olde Creek Families and Friends,

We had an exciting week at Olde Creek as we celebrated the 100th day of school! Our students had a variety of activities across our grade levels and were able to complete challenges related to the number 100. Students and staff were able to sign a banner in our main lobby once they completed a challenge. It was a fun day celebrating our 100th day!

Thank you to our families who joined us for our PTA Bingo Night! It was a thrilling night of bingo, prizes, and community fun! We appreciate our volunteers who made it a great success! We hope to see many of our families at our PTA Family Science Night on Tuesday evening. Please come out and join us for engaging science activities, we know it will be a night filled with curiosity, adventure, and excitement!

This week is National School Counseling Week which highlights the tremendous impact school counselors have in helping students achieve academic success and planning for a career. Our school counselor, Cameron Boster, supports students in a variety of ways throughout the school day. You will see him teaching classroom lessons, doing small group counseling, or individual counseling. We are thankful for the support that Mr. Boster provides to our Bears, staff, and families! Thank you, Mr. Boster!

There has been an increase in unsafe driving practices on Old Creek Drive. Our priority is the safety of students, staff, and parents during arrival and dismissal. Traffic patterns must be followed, no U-turns on Old Creek Drive, and if you are driving your child to school, use Kiss and Ride only. We continue to receive concerns about driveways being blocked and illegal U-turns occuring. As a reminder, parking is not allowed within 10 feet of driveways. Please contact our main office if you have questions about arrival and dismissal procedures.

This week, we welcomed Ms. Maureen Boland, a FCPS retired administrator, to Olde Creek to help support as I start to transition to my new school. We appreciate Ms. Boland joining our team during this transition.

We look forward to seeing our Bears back on Monday! We hope you will be able to join us on Tuesday evening for our PTA Family Science Night!

With much gratitude,

Melissa Miller, Principal

Stephanie Kaminsky, Assistant Principal

3. Bike Riding Unit for Grades K-2

Our bike riding unit in PE for Kinder- 2nd grade students will start on the week of February 12th and end March 1st.  We take all the precautions to make sure that our students will be safe the entire time they ride, including wearing hairnets, helmets, and teaching students proper bike safety. Since having a properly fitted helmet is so important in keeping people safe, we do ask that all students with longer hair wear it in a way that a helmet can still fit over it properly (for example, a low ponytail instead of a high ponytail, etc). Also, students are allowed to bring their own helmet. Lastly, we ask that students don’t wear long dresses or excessively baggy clothing, as we don’t want it to get caught in the chain of the bike. Thanks for helping your student to have the most success possible!

Here Comes the Bus

Want to know if your child's bus is on schedule or where the bus is? Here Comes the Bus® is an easy-to-use website and app that enables parents to see the location of their child’s school bus — almost in real time — on a smartphone, tablet, or personal computer.

Parents can track multiple buses if their children don’t all ride the same bus; know exactly when children arrive at school or the bus stop; and receive customized text and/or email notifications about bus locations, schedule changes, or delays.

To get started, download the app from the Apple iOS or Android app store. Check out the Here Comes the Bus and Frequently Asked Questions webpages for more information.

Already using the Here Comes the Bus app? Send your feedback to [email protected].
