Student School Climate Survey

This winter our school, in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Education and the University of Virginia, is participating in a statewide student school climate survey. The purpose of this survey is to help schools assess their progress in establishing a positive school climate that promotes student learning.

The survey will be completed online using computers at school. The survey does not ask for your child’s name and all answers are anonymous (no one will know how your child answered the survey). Parents will not have access to their child’s survey answers. There is a copy of the survey available at school for your review and is available here.

The survey will ask questions such as how students feel about their school, how students get along with one another and their teachers, how students feel about school rules, their perceptions of their teachers’ willingness to help them, and how they feel about attending school. They will also be asked what kinds of bullying they may have observed at school and whether they have been bullied themselves.

The survey is voluntary and your child can decide not to participate. If you do not wish for your child to participate, please notify Assistant Principal Kenya Champ at kschamp@fcps.edu by January 9, 2019.

Your child will not receive any immediate benefit from participating in the survey, but the survey will help us to maintain a safe, inviting, and supportive learning environment for your child.

Thank you for your cooperation in this important study of school climate.

Olde Creek Families and Friends…

On behalf of the entire staff at Olde Creek Elementary School, we would like to wish each and every one of our students and their families a Happy Thanksgiving. We hope that in the coming days, all of you have the opportunity to relax and enjoy time with your family and friends.

At Olde Creek we are thankful for every single one of our students. They are caring citizens who are kind and thoughtful. They put the needs of others first and are always looking for ways to make a positive impact on the people or the world around them. Our students are innovative thinkers that take risks, do things that are hard, and overcome adversity. They communicate and collaborate as teams to accomplish their collective goals. They have inquisitive minds that foster their passion for learning. We are so proud of every one of them and we consider it a privilege to work with them each day.

We are also very thankful for all of the Olde Creek families and community members that support our students. We are grateful for all that you do, big and small, seen and unseen, to set our students up for success. We appreciate the strong school-to-home partnerships that each of you foster that allow us to work together to give our students an educational experience that will help them reach their limitless potential.

We wish you safe travels and plenty of warm memories with those you cherish the most.

Happy Thanksgiving.

-Olde Creek ES

Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Luncheon

We had two wonderful community events at Olde Creek this week. On Monday, we welcomed active duty and retired members of our nation’s armed services to honor and recognize Veterans Day. Every student in the building had the opportunity to listen and interact with one of our visitors. We are grateful that our honored guests took the time to share about their military service to our country. This memorable experience will leave a lasting impression on all of us.

Then, after we worked through the weather cancellations and delays, we had a festive Thanksgiving Luncheon today. We couldn’t have done it without the amazing parent volunteers who dedicated their time to making this event happen. Our cafeteria was full of smiling faces, warm greetings, and families and friends coming together. It is clear that we have much to be thankful for at Olde Creek!

Dear OCES Parents and Families:

While being one of the smallest elementary schools in the Fairfax County Public School system, Olde Creek is fortunate to have extremely talented and dedicated staff and an amazing group of parents and families involved in our community. A significant part of this community is the OCES Parent Teacher Association (PTA).

Membership is vital to the PTA, as it enables the organization to host a number of community events throughout the school year, as well as support a number of programs. This includes every field trip, Math & Reading Nights, student assemblies, technology for each classroom, and after-school clubs such as Art, Drama, Makerspace, Games & Puzzles, and so much more.

The OCES PTA cannot support these programs without your membership.  By joining, you are not required to attend any meetings, but are certainly always welcome.

If you haven't already, please consider joining the OCES PTA online at http://oldecreekpta.org or complete the form at the link below and submit it to the OCES front office.
