Welcome, Principal Korb!
The Region 5 Leadership Team is pleased to announce that Ms. Courtney Korb has been named the new principal of Olde Creek Elementary School!
Ms. Korb holds a Leadership and Administration Endorsement from George Mason University, a Master of Special Education and Elementary Education from Long Island University, and a Bachelor of Science in Health and Human Services, Focus on Early Childhood, and minors in Sociology and Education from State University of New York at Buffalo. Ms. Korb is in her 11th year serving as a school administrator. She is currently the assistant principal at Fairhill Elementary School and was previously the assistant principal at Camelot Elementary School. Ms. Korb began her educational career as an enhanced autism teacher and learning disabilities teacher in multiple FCPS elementary schools.
During her tenure at Fairhill and Camelot, Ms. Korb has been a leader in School Improvement and Innovation Plan (SIIP) efforts, identifying targeted areas of need, and ensuring that strong, rigorous goals are developed based on available data. Ms. Korb has supported her teams on the implementation of the Equitable Access to Literacy (EAL) Plan and led all K-6 literacy teachers through this major language arts initiative. She has led equity work related to culturally responsive teaching and hiring practices as an assistant principal in two separate buildings. Additionally, Ms. Korb is MANDT certified, and ABA trained. Most recently, Ms. Korb has supported the opening of a new Enhanced Autism Program and Preschool Autism Classroom (PAC) at Fairhill Elementary School. While serving as the assistant principal at Camelot, Ms. Korb supervised multiple special education programs, and led/supported general and special education teachers in closing the SOL gap in Reading and Math resulting in a 43% increase in Math and a 13% increase in Reading between Spring 2018 and Spring 2019. She has also served as an ESY administrator in the summer at numerous sites over multiple years.
Ms. Korb has demonstrated throughout her career that she is a highly skilled communicator. She communicates with parents monthly through PTA meetings and Principal Coffees to sustain positive relationships and maintain a caring and welcoming school culture. She has worked closely with her parent community to ensure her school became a national partner with All Pro Dads. This partnership increased the number of fathers involved with the school on a regular basis from 10 to 50 within one school year. Ms. Korb has earned numerous educational awards including being named FCPS SEPTA Nominee for Outstanding Leader (2019-20) and being nominated numerous times as the FCPS Honors Outstanding Leader (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022).
Ms. Korb is an experienced, dedicated, and talented school leader. In addition to serving as the assistant principal of Fairhill, Ms. Korb is a valued leader among her peers, serving on the Region 2 Assistant Principal Leadership Team for many years. Ms. Korb has both delivered and attended numerous professional development workshops/trainings over the years on topics such as CLT Facilitation, Creating a PLC Culture, Cognitive Coaching, Orton Gillingham, Lexia, and the Science of Reading. Ms. Korb is a leader who is reflective, collaborative, enthusiastic, and empathetic. She has a strong belief in the power of relationships and the importance of ensuring that ALL students and families feel seen, heard, and connected to their school community.
Ms. Korb was born and raised on Long Island and has been a proud resident of Northern Virginia since 2006. She lives in Reston with her husband, two elementary aged kids (who are both FCPS students), and their two puppy-cats, Theo and Rudy. She is a parent member of SEPTA and an active member of her own school community.
